Copyright Dispute Form

File a DMCA request

Please note that we are unable to process DMCA notices that refer to sites hosted on third-party servers or sites not owned or controlled by Distro Sync. For music content we license to third-party services (Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, etc.) on behalf of our users, we may issue takedown requests (if infringing). However, we cannot guarantee the speed and full cooperation of third-party services.

Distro Sync provides a service that allows record labels, artists, producers, musicians, and rights holders to upload, distribute & license their music to stores and services worldwide. As outlined in our Terms of Use (you can read them here), Distro Sync is not liable for any infringing content uploaded by our users. We are simply providing a digital service intended for creatives and businesses to distribute and monetize music they own and/or control. As such, we will make our best efforts to properly address and respond to all copyright complaints; but Distro Sync is not a liable party for any notices made through this form, and we may need to connect you or provide you with the responsible account user’s contact method.

Before submitting a DMCA notice, it’s important to consider whether the material is in fact infringing your copyright or falls under fair use. If you are not sure whether the material infringes on your copyright, or if it is subject to fair use protections, you should first consider seeking legal advice.
You may be liable for damages (including costs and attorneys’ fees) if you misrepresent that material as your copyright.

Your DMCA notice may be forwarded to the party that made the material available and also may be sent to third parties. In addition, you are required to consider the possible fair use implications. We reserve the right to challenge abuses of the DMCA process, and your use of this form does not waive that right.

Please follow these steps to file a notice:

  1. Verify that the material in question is hosted and distributed by Distro Sync. We have no control over content distributed by similar services such as (but not limited to) Distrokid, Tunecore, Ditto Music, AWAL, CD Baby, etc.
  2. Contact the user (artist, label, etc.) directly as an initial attempt to resolve. Contact them by email or via their social media links (if any) with your complaint to see if the matter can be resolved directly between you and the user.
  3. Send your complaint to our designated agent by pressing the “Continue” button below, if the issue cannot be resolved directly with the user. As required by the DMCA, we have a policy to investigate and potentially terminate users and/or remove content that we consider to be violating our policies. Although we won’t share the specifics of our investigations as this is intended to be internal, we believe that it strikes the right balance: it protects the rights of copyright owners and protects legitimate users from wrongful termination. Please note that notices that are successfully countered, rejected on fair use grounds, or deemed to be fraudulent are not counted against a user, material, or site.
